NEW AT THE NATURE CENTER: CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
We are pleased to offer programs specifically designed for children in grades K-6 and their parents/guardians. Dianne Welsch will lead most activities on the second Saturday morning of each month. She is a retired sixth-grade teacher and mother of two daughters. Dianne volunteers at Victor Wooten's Center for Music and Nature in Tennessee and has taught at Sheldon Institute. She was a church school director for many years and has volunteered with Oswego’s maritime museum, yacht club, harborfest, figure skating club, youth soccer program, Girl Scout troops, marching band, and parent/teacher associations. She enjoys crossword puzzles, biking, sailing, snowshoeing, and geocaching. Dianne resides in Southwest Oswego with her husband, Dave, and their cat.
KRISTEN MOORE IS AN ADVENTURE EDUCATOR and the founder of Moore Dirty Boots, where she leads interdisciplinary programming that emphasizes sustainability. An active, joyful life along Lake Ontario inspired Kristen to pursue her education in Media Arts and Adventure Education at Green Mountain College. Her programs, which include pollinator parties, lake cleanups, and gratitude hikes, are designed to help others bond with nature and develop strong conservation ethics. Kristen's dedication to recreation, service, and education is evident in her initiatives, such as stream cleanups, yoga hikes, and participating in the largest simultaneous testing for microplastics in the Great Lakes, all aimed at enhancing our shared spaces. We are very pleased that she will be bringing her programming to the Sterling Nature Center this fall, and everyone here at the center is very excited about the opportunities her expertise will bring to our community.
